An attractive men’s waterproof Cyma NavyStar vintage watch, complete with its original box.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
A little contentious this. Cyma themselves say the Navystar line came out in 1960’s. But we have seen adverts and watches with sales papers from the late 1950’s, which is when we believe this watch was made. Cyma registered the Navystar trademark in 1955, and the CymaFlex name in 1950. We wouldn’t normally go against the manufacturer, but in this case we will rebel!
CONDITION
The advantage of buying a vintage waterproof watch is not just that water has been unlikely to get into the case. It is also that dial damage, often due to cigarette smoke penetrating that case, is also vastly reduced. With the naked eye this watch looks to be in great condition, but up close with a loupe (or in enlarged photographs like here) you can see the dial has an even patina of age spots. At least we know it is original! The 17 jewel, in house Cyma 458 movement is running well and is nicely decorated, and we have fitted a new leather strap.
