Ralco were a subdivision of Movado, and this clean example has a date pointer hand as well as sub seconds.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

Judging by the size and styling, combined with the production dates of the FEF 175-3 movement, we can estimate the production date of this watch to being circa 1945.

CONDITION

The dial is original, with a couple of bits of patina when you look up close, but the overall effect is very clean.  The numerals are gilt, and the date numbers and date pointer hand are red.  The size is small for modern tastes, but nicely proportioned.  The case bezel is chromed, as many of this period are (stainless steel was snapped up for military uses, but the case back is stainless), and the strap is later leather replacement by Apollo with a gilt buckle.  It is unusual to find watches with a date complication from this period, and Movado triple dates were well ahead of their time.  Movado have taken some of the demand for these and added the feature to the sister brand.

Never heard of Ralco? It’s Movado by another name. The Ralco name comes from the initials of three of the Ditesheim family (owners of Movado), Roger, Armand and Lucien.
