A nice Roamer men’s vintage watch, with a gilt Art Deco dial, and manual wind MST movement all working well.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The MST 372 movement had a long life, from 1944 to 1962. But only the early ones had a fixed stud carrier and no shock protection like this one has. We also have found a teasing image from the Basel Expo in 1944, where the watch to the left that you can just see has the same type of number 3 as our watch. This watch could be a few years later than 1944, but we can not find any evidence to support this.
CONDITION
The main fault we normally find in dress watches from the 1930’s/1940’s/1950’s is that the dial is stained. Tobacco smoke mainly would get into the non waterproof cases, and the dial is ruined. That is not the case here, where the dial is the stand out reason to buy this watch. There is nothing wrong with the movement either – Roamer made their own MST movements until 1975, and they are prized by collectors. The gold plated case shows wear on the high spots, as you would expect, but no dings. The case back design is quite clever, incorporating a dust cover within the stainless steel case back (probably why the dial has survived so well). The leather strap is new, and can be changed easily thanks to the drilled lugs.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
