This manual wind Timex Marlin is a retake on the 1960’s Timex watches, but with better quality. Complete set.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The supplied paperwork for this watch is not filled in. However, the seller is a customer who we trust, and they say they bought the watch in 2017. We have no reason to doubt them, especially when the case back is stamped circa 2017.
CONDITION
The reissued Marlin range created quite some ripples when it was launched, even to the point where writers for Hodinkee couldn’t get one (you can read the article here). At time of launch they all sold out, and given that Timex were true to the original and launched the watch in a 34mm case surprised a few people. Now watches are becoming smaller again, but perhaps Timex were ahead of the curve here. The main difference between the reissue and the original is the movement, and that is welcome. No more unjewelled pin pallet movements, but the reissue Marlin has a 20 jewel movement that even has some decoration and nicely blued screws. Yes it is made in China not Switzerland, but it is still impressive at the price point. The case similarly is not chromed, but stainless steel. These are both valuable upgrades on the 1965 model. There are very few, very minor wear marks on this watch, the worst being a small ding near 4. The watch comes with the box, the outer box and the shipping box.
