A hard to find 1997, 5Y31-5040 Seiko watch, which has the benefit of being fitted with a new Seiko Hardlex glass.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in February 1997.

CONDITION

Now that we have cleaned the bracelet in our ultrasonic bath, and replaced the Hardlex crystal that did have a single deep scratch on it, this watch is very presentable.  There is some wear to the gold plating on the high spots on the case, but this looks worse on the photos than it does in real life.  The bracelet is easily adjustable without special tools, but the bottom half of the clasp is not gold plated – it is stamped Seiko, but may be a later replacement.  It is secure, and difficult to see when the watch is on the wrist – maybe Seiko deliberately didn’t use gold plating on this high wearing part?  We are not sure.  The dial is very clean, with a deco style border.  The movement is working perfectly and a new battery will be fitted before this is sent out.

This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
