HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in October 1996. This model was first released in 1996 too.
CONDITION
Grand Seiko were first launched in 1960, but then fizzled out in the 1980’s. In 1988 Seiko decided to relaunch their premium line of watches, and at the time they were all quartz powered. But, just like a Timex and a Rolex might both be automatic, there is quartz and then there is Grand Quartz. The 8J55 movement was designed to be accurate and robust – the replacement 9F series allegedly movements that came out a few years later were rumoured to cost Seiko 30% less to make. While this model is a complete lesson in taste and restraint, the buckle is surprisingly detailed and a nice find – many GS models were japanese domestic market only, and the smaller bracelets often swapped for leather straps. Model SBGF015 only ever came on a leather strap, hence the correct buckle is with the watch. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and buckle.
