HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1990.
CONDITION
The TAG Heuer Formula 1 was launched in 1987, originally in a fibreglass case with a rubber strap. It was designed to give buyers an upgrade on the Swatch watches that were selling so well, but at a premium price, and it was hugely successful. In 1991 the range was expanded to include steel case and bracelets for the first time, and this watch must have been one of the earliest. The black dial with yellow hands is pictured in the catalogue, shown here. The plastic bezel does have some wear – almost all do – but it is still legible and turns with a fine click. The ETA quartz movement is signed TAG Heuer and we will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The bracelet has been shortened in the past and now has a bracelet extender to compensate for that, but is still has the divers fliplock extension fitted too. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown (Heuer only – this is correct as TAG Heuer were trying to use up the Heuer parts after the 1985 takeover and rebrand), and clasp.
