HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in August 1984.
CONDITION
The 7A** range of watches from Seiko are always popular. Much larger than most watches of their day, they also pack a top quality quartz movement that is completely serviceable. The 7A28 was the first analogue watch to show 1/10th of a second on the chronograph, the 7A38 added a day and date window to that and the top of the range was the 7A48 which had a date hand and a full, 29 1/2 day moonphase at 12.
The known weak spots on this range of watches have all been addressed in this example. The Hardlex crystal scratches easily, so this one has just had a new Sternkreuz glass fitted. The pushers are known to stick, so this has the pushers cleaned and greased correctly. And the last weak spot is the quality of the bracelets that Seiko made during the 1980’s. They are made from good materials, but do attract dirt in all the nooks and crannies and can also be a bit rattley. We have cleaned this bracelet in our ultrasonic bath, and it is of a good length. Some of the gold plated centre links have some damage, but they are structurally sound. The dial is in superb condition, and has golden applied dots for hour markers that pick up the golden highlights in the bracelet, buttons and centre chronograph hand.
