A freshly serviced Seiko divers watch of a classic design, this is the full size version too. Model reference 7548-7000.
CONDITION
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in September 1981. The watch appeared in the 1982 Seiko range, at a cost of ¥35,000.
CONDITION
It is unusual that a watch is more fashionable now than when it was available for sale in back in 1981. Back then most people wanted rectangular, thin, gold plated watches, not orange dialed dive watches. That is unless you were using the watch as a tool watch – which it was designed for – possibly as a professional diver. Many examples do show they have had a hard life, but this one doesn’t The bezel insert has a few small marks, but nothing dramatic. The case is the full size 42mm version and it boasted 150m water resistance and things like a bidirectional bezel and a screw down crown. The quartz movement has an end of life indicator, so the watch wouldn’t suddenly stop working when you were diving – we have to remember the watch was a vital piece of divers equipment, and you entrusted your life to it. We have just had a full movement service and new case seals fitted to this watch, so it should be good for many years to come. The quick set date is working perfectly, and the day can be quick set too, choosing between English and Kanji. The case has had a life, and it shows multiple marks befitting a tool watch. The fabric strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
