HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1980.
CONDITION
Automatic watches are, by design, a little thicker than a manual wind watch, and more expensive to produce. So while the Omega Ladymatic or Rolex Datejust 26 were popular, many brands never bothered. But by the mid 1970’s more and more watches were quartz and battery powered, and the fashion was for the slimmer quartz watches (often gold plated and in rectangular cases). So a round, steel, 1980 ladies automatic watch was frankly going against the flow of fashion and technology. But if you want an automatic from that year, this Tissot is a fine choice. The movement is a Tissot 3112, which is based on an ETA calibre, and not only has quick set date but also runs at a higher rate of 28,800 beats per hour when you might expect 18,000 or 21,600 bph. This just makes the sweep second hand smoother. The case has a few marks from the years, but no real damage and has a screw down case back as well as the signed crown. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred – we show the watch with a red leather strap in the video to prove how versatile the design can be.
