This Longines Flagship has the beautiful and ultrathin calibre 990.1 inside at a time when most watches were quartz. Model reference 4442.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back Longines have confirmed this watch was made in 1978. It was also Longines themselves who stated this watch was part of their Flagship collection, as it is not written on the dial.
CONDITION
The in-house Longines calibre 990.1 found in this watch is a work of art. Launched in 1977, at 2.95mm tall it was the thinnest automatic movement with date and centre seconds for over 25 years, yet is still ran at 28,800 bph and has micrometer regulation. For comparison the Omega 1012 isn’t a thick movement but it is 4.25mm, and the ETA 2824 of the period is 5.35mm. And the Longines is beautifully finished too, with Côtes de Genève stripes on the beveled bridges and auto rotor. It is hard to think of another movement that does so much, so well, and is still available at this price point. The case is 20 micron gold plated and while this doesn’t show any bad damage the glass does have some surface scratches. The cross hatched dial is quite clean and not stained in any way. The crown has a cabochon black stone, possibly onyx, set into it. The strap is new and wears the original gold plated buckle, and the leather could be swapped for a different colour if required.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
