An early Tissot Seastar Quartz watch before the race to make the cheapest possible quartz movements happened. Model reference 40.646.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1977.
CONDITION
The first quartz watch offered on sale was by Seiko on Christmas day 1969. It was prohibitively expensive, and then during the seventies we had the largest choice of technology available to tell the time that had ever been offered. Not only could you get mechanical watches, but you could also choose electronic, LED, LCD and quartz. While some of those have not continued to be made, mechanical or quartz regulated watches are still your main choice today. Before the eighties and plastic cases, quartz watches were still made properly – by that we mean the case materials, detailing etc were the same as their mechanical cousins. So this Seastar is all stainless steel, it has a signed crown and a glass instead of plastic lens. The dial is maybe slightly faded from when it is new, but clean enough. The calibre 2030 movement has three jewels and the hour hand can be moved independently to the minute hand, which is great for people travelling across time zones. Setting the minute hand requires pressing the crown for 5 seconds, releasing it and quickly repressing it. This motors the minute hand round in the same way Omega quartz watches did. All setting actions are stiff, which seems to be a standard thing with this movement (see this page for more). We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner and set the time to their time zone. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon. By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
