A very nice Seamaster Omega, but not in the style of the model divers watches you might expect. Model reference 196.0079
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1977. According to Omega’s own website, this was the year this model was launched.
CONDITION
When you think of an Omega Seamaster you might think James Bond, diver style watches. But they did make watches using the Seamaster name that were only splash resistant – when new Omega only claimed 30m water resistance for model 196.0079, which is hand wash only (and never get any vintage watch wet!). The case is 20 micron gold plated and in good order. The dial is overall clean with just a slight bend to it, that is difficult to see but there. The calibre 1342 movement was a high quality item. This one has had the original battery, which is no longer available, swapped for the Renata 329 and correct sleeve to make it the correct size. These sleeves can be reused, and we will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The video shows how to use the innovative push button set into the crown to set the time accurately. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
