1976 was peak time for LCD watches, and Seiko made the best on the market. Model reference 0439-5007.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in November 1976. This model doesn’t appear in the 1976 catalogue but makes its first appearance in the 1977 catalogue (pictured), so 1976 may be the earliest this model was produced. At ¥ 28,000 it was ¥ 4,000 more than an automatic ‘bullshead’ 6138 chronograph.
CONDITION
Seiko launched the first six digit LCD watch in October 1973, and the market loved it. More followed, with the first multifunction LCD watch happening in 1975 and this watch was made just one year later. This watch has a day and month display, shown by pressing the button on the right. The button on the left is for the light, which still works (but remember thee were never very bright!) The button on the left hand side is for setting the time, and everything is working as it should. The display is slightly discoloured in the centre at some angles though. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The case is all stainless steel, and in good shape. The glass has small scratches. The bracelet is very long, possibly full length, and has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
