Freshly serviced, this early Omega quartz men’s watch has calibre 1310 inside.  Model reference 196.0065

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1973.  That was the very start of the 1310 calibre production.

CONDITION

This watch was a bit of a Pioneer.  Quartz had only become commercially available in late December 1969 by Seiko, but the Swiss were already working on their technology as a collaboration of Swiss companies had been working on Beta21.  This group included Omega, as well as Patek Philippe, Piaget, IWC, Rolex and others, but not Girard Perregaux.  The large Beta 21 design meant some very funky case designs were needed, but it was a huge success.  Both the Seiko and Beta 21 ran at an unprecedented 8,192hZ, allowing until then unimaginable accuracy for production watches.  Then Girard-Perregaux shocked the watch world with their 350 caliber, developed with Motorola and running at 4 times the frequency of Beta 21.  In 1973, the year this watch was made, Omega revealed their own in house developed calibre 1310.  Still quite a chunky beast, it had quick set day and date calendar and ran at the still widely adopted 32,768hZ – it was the best of all Worlds, and Omega had the leap on their competition.

The 8 jewel movement has been serviced and is all running perfectly.  The top pusher advances the second hand to the next 5 second interval for super accurate time setting.  The bottom pusher advances the date by one, and the day is quickset via the crown.  The dial is clean, as are the hands, and the unpolished case has only a few marks. The leather strap is nearly new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.  We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
