The Certina DS-2 was their sporty, rugged watch made to take on the worst things people could throw at it and laugh at them for trying to upset it.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

This model was available from the launch of the DS-2 range in 1968 to 1974 with the model code 5801-300, and in 1974 the model code changed.  However the case back on this watch still has the printed date code 08-73, showing the watch was made in August 1973.

CONDITION

We have said this before, but Certina watches in the UK are undervalued.  Luckily we export about 70% of our watches, and Certina are appreciated more outside of the UK.  The DS-2 watch launched to be an incredibly robust watch.  The crown had two seals to prevent water ingress, and the movement is held in an anti shock rubber ring.  The 26 jewel in house 25-651 automatic movement is running very nicely, and is finished better than a movement hidden behind a case back should be.  The case back itself has the turtle logo in the centre, surrounded by wavy lines.  The case is all stainless steel, and does have some dinks and scratches, but is unpolished.  The bracelet is a modern solid link Xemex stainless steel one with butterfly clasp.  The dial is very good, although the glass does have some marks.

This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.
