HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1972.
CONDITION
Tissot remain the best value for money Swiss watches from this period. They were made in relatively large numbers, and the finishing on things like the movements is not the highest grade (but far from the lowest either), but they still provide great watchmaking heritage, good design, reliability and for fractions of the price of other brands. The case is design called C, after the Omega Constellation, which has a smooth, constant curve on the outside and very strong lugs. It is 20 micron gold plated rather than the standard 10, and it is holding up quite well. There are a couple of small dings, but it is otherwise good. Inside is a Tissot automatic movement, calibre 794, with 21 jewels. This has day and date calendar, and the date has semi quick set (set the day first, then wind the hands past midnight, back to 8pm, and back past midnight – repeat until the correct date shows.) This is running well. The gold dial is very good, as are the hands and the crystal has been polished too. The navy blue leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
