The GL part of the name stands for Grand Luxe, and this was the top of the range Tissot PR516 range. Model reference 46672-2X.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1971.
CONDITION
Launched in 1965, the PR516 was a huge success and has lead to some reimagined new models too. PR stood for Particularly Robust, but with this being the GL model you have gold plated case and bracelet, as well as floating hour markers above the dial. The gold plated case and bracelet only show minor wear, but the acrylic crystal does have a few scratches. The movement is Tissot’s calibre 794, a 21 jewel automatic with day and date. The watch doesn’t have quickset date, so you have to use the semi quickset method past midnight to set the day, then back to 8pm and past midnight to set the date – repeat until you are on the right date. The dial is excellent, and the hands are perfect. The naughty bit of fluff that can be seen on the six floating hour marker on the photos has been removed now, and then the video was taken. The centrally mounted bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown and clasp.
