If you don’t already have a Smiths pocket watch with a scarlet red dial then here is your chance!

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

The movement in this pocket watch was in production between 1946 and 1980, so if we did not have the sales paperwork from October 1970 we would have really struggled.

CONDITION

The watch is in decent condition overall, with just a few tool marks on the sides.  The styling is very unusual – you have a 24 hour dial, lumed hands and dial numerals, this deep red or scarlet dial colour set against gold plated case.  The matte finish of the dial is in good condition, and we have taken a photo without the bezel and glass to show this.  You will know it is running though, as the pin pallet calibre PY movement is quite loud.  These beat very slowly, at 14,400 bph, and this watch is not going win prizes for quality – these Made in Great Britain Smiths were usually branded Empire, and were the watches of the people at a time when people couldn’t afford much.  That said it is running well enough, and we have not seen another pocket watch in this colour scheme.  The box hasn’t got any major damage and there is a good chance that this pocket watch has lived in this box for the majority of its life.  Also included on the papers are instructions on how to set the hands – also shown in the video.

This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, papers and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.
