With the very rare JB Champion bracelet and just serviced, this Accutron Spaceview was both groundbreaking and eye catching.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1969.
CONDITION
Buying a Spaceview can be a minefield, as some sellers take a dial out of a standard Accutron and call it a Spaceview, hoping to get a higher price. Real Spaceview watches have matte white hands, designed to give the best contrast against the movement. They should be infilled with lume, that sits just under the level of the hands. The reflector, or minute track around the outside, should be there and wouldn’t be if the dial had simply been removed. Finally the case should be the same as the cases used on known Spaceview models. This watch checks out in all these areas. The JB Champion bracelet is an added, valuable bonus – the first time we have seen one in real life, but we did find them on an original 1966 advert. The bracelet does have a part missing, which we highlight in the video, but it is secure and there is also some wear to the plating. The 214 calibre is back set, hence no crown, and has just been serviced by Accutron specialists so is running superbly. The 10k gold filled case is good, with a small ding near nine being the worst damage. You could fit a leather strap if preferred, but our suggestion would be to try the bracelet first – finding a leather strap is easy, finding the bracelet is very hard.
