This manual wind, high beat King Seiko is an excellent rival to more expensive Omega watches of the time. Model reference 4502-7000.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in October 1968. 1968 was also the lunch year for this model, which was also available without the newly developed instant date change calendar (reference 4500-7000).
CONDITION
This model defined the look of the King Seiko range for the next few years. The prominent sweeping sides create very strong lugs. The hands are original, with a black stripe painted down the centre to ensure the watch is always legible. The crown is also correct, with the KS logo in the centre – in 1970 the crown design was subtle changed, but this is the original design. The gold emblem on the screw down case back is not showing much wear either – it is not unusual to see these worn or even missing. The movement, a 25 jewel calibre 4502A, has quick set date and the higher beat rate of 36,000 to improve accuracy. This is still evident – the watch is running at +2 seconds per day on the timegrapher. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and crown.
