Sixties Seiko watches were popular everywhere – except in Switzerland! This Marvel model shows why. Model reference J13016.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in April 1967.
CONDITION
There used to be chronometer competitions in Switzerland, where the best movements would be put forward to be independently tested for accuracy. Once Seiko started entering – and winning prizes – the Swiss competitions stopped. You can draw your own conclusions to why! This Marvel model wasn’t one of Seiko’s higher end models, but it still has a lot going for it. The case is all stainless steel, and has drilled lugs for easy strap changes. One of the lugs does have some marks on it. The hands and dial markers are gold coloured, so a brown or black strap really looks the part. The dial is original and has a few marks, and the D of diashock is a little faded (Diashock is Seiko’s in house shock protection system). The manual wind movement is simple and running well. The black suede effect strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
