With a slim microrotor movement housed in an 18k gold case, with a striped dial, this Universal Geneve should appeal to you.  Model reference 166107/04.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the import hallmark on the inside of the case back we can date this case to being assayed in 1966.  1966 was also the first year that this movement was made, so it couldn’t be older than that date either.

CONDITION

Universal Geneve have had a long and varied history, but it is not easy to research as both words bring up lots of unrelated results.  Founded in 1894, it is easier to research their watch models such as Polerouter, Tri Compax, Dato-Compax etc.  They are all highly sought after, but the micro rotor is special to Universal Geneve as they were the first (or at least among the very first) to design and use the technology.  The Polerouter swapped a conventional automatic for the calibre 215 microrotor, with the big advantage being you didn’t need to make the cases so thick because the movements were naturally thinner without a big weight swinging on the back.  In the later sixties and seventies these movements were used in the White Shadow and Golden Shadow lines, and were the thinnest automatic movements in the world.

This watch has the calibre 66 movement, which has 25 jewels and no date.  This can be hand wound via the signed crown too.  The dial has some non parallel stripes as a pattern that catch the light nicely – the video is probably the best way to see this effect.  There is a little patina on the dial.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred, but we have transferred the original gold plated Universal Geneve buckel to the new strap
