HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1966.
CONDITION
Naturally the Flagship was the top of the range of Longines watches, and this one features their new for 1966 calibre 345. Unusually the rotor on the automatic movement is off centre, and this might just be for packaging design or maybe it was thought an off centre rotor might swing more easily? Certainly the ball bearings on the rotor will help with that too. The 17 jewel movement also has fine adjustment on the balance too, and is all working well. It can also be hand wound via the signed crown to get things going, always a good idea with vintage watches, and the date can also be semi quick set. The dial is quite conservative in design, which does make this watch easy to wear with everything. The dial is original and has some spotting patina evenly spread across it. The enamel logo on the screw down case back has lost some of the infill, which is far from uncommon, but that is worse damage on the entire watch. The brown satchel leather Geckota strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and crown.
