This rare Eterna-Matic 3000 was the world’s flattest self-winding calendar watch with centre seconds. Model reference 746T.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the supplied paperwork, which matches the serial number on the case back, we can accurately date this watch to being sold on Valentines day, 1966.
CONDITION
The 3000 was the flagship of the entire Eterna-Matic range, and will have been an expensive watch. Originally it would have been on a 18k gold bracelet, but now the watch is supplied on a leather strap. The dial doesn’t say Eterna-Matic 3000 and is silver rather than gold like the one we have found in a sales catalogue of the day – there may have been variations, or it may be a replacement dial. The movement is Eterna’s 1466U – a super slim 21 jewel movement with quick set date (operated by pulling the crown). It was later developed into the ETA 2892, which can be found as a base ebauche in many high end watches even today. The screw down case back hides the movement, but again is solid gold and there is some weight to the watch – 31 grams with the movement but with no strap. We have fitted a new strap, paired with a period correct gold plated Eterna Matic buckle.

This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.
