HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in September 1965.
CONDITION
Launched in 1963 as the Seiko Sportsmatic 5, the Seiko 5 line revolutionized automatic watches by offering durability and functionality to a young, active demographic. Defined by five key attributes—automatic movement, day-date display, water resistance, recessed 4 o’clock crown, and durable construction, there were an immediate and lasting success. This version has a chromed outer ridged bezel, and a the 5 symbol on the dial in a red shield. The dial has light patina, and the bezel has a small amount of wear, but overall the watch presents very well and is a big size for the time. The 21 jewel movement is automatic wind only, and therefore the crown sits flush to the case. You can press the crown inwards to quick set the date, but the English day wheel needs to be advanced by winding the hands past midnight. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
