All vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre watches are desirable, and this square case makes this one a little different to most. Model reference 1916.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1965.
CONDITION
Firstly let’s address the strap. This mustard leather strap is new, and we recognise it will not suit everyone. However we chose it to demonstrate that when you have a silver dial in a stainless steel case, a colour scheme which can be a little restrained, it is easy to make the watch look very different. You can chose whatever colour strap you prefer, but we suspect most people will pick black leather. The lug size is a standard 18mm, so choice of strap is excellent.
The square case would have been a man’s watch, and can still be, but it could also suit a lady. That case is all stainless steel, and houses a K818 manual wind movement. Jaeger-LeCoultre make the most famous square or rectangular cased watch ever, the Reverso, but this is a much slimmer design and doesn’t flip over like a Reverso would. The movement is under 3mm thick, which is what allows the case to be so thin. It is running very well. The dial is original but does have a mark near 8. The crown is also original, and signed. As ever with JLC, quality is everywhere, one of the reasons their watches remain so desirable.
