This Cyma would have been a highly prized reward for long service, when employers often said thank you with a gold watch.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the inscription on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being presented in 1965 by Radcliffs (Great Bridge) Ltd.   The London assay mark inside the case is for 1964, but 1965 is the more obvious year.

CONDITION

Cyma were a true manufacturer, as in they made their own movements.  Fitted inside this case is a R484 17 jewel manual wind calibre, which is very clean and running sweetly.  The case itself is by DS&S, so the case was made in the UK and the movement imported.  This legally circumnavigated the very high tax due on imported gold watches, but was no cost cutting measure from Cyma – DS&S made case for Rolex, Longines and many others for the same reason during this period.  The case back is nicely engraved for 35 years service, something that is hard to imagine today.  The dial is in clean condition, with just the occasional spot.  The acrylic crystal is new.  The leather strap is also new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
