Known as the Bond Breitling after Sean Connery wore one in Thunderball in 1965, the Top Time Chronograph is still a much sort after model. Model 2003
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We can date this perfectly to being made in 1965 by the serial number on the original movement.
CONDITION
Q modified a Top Time for James Bond in Thunderball, adding a geiger counter. That actual prop was found recently, and the story is here. The auction at Christies made £103,875 and that watch didn’t work! A full list of James Bond watches can be found here.
Ours is a slightly different configuration – still has a black dial and silver sub dials, but ours has a gold plated case and no geiger counter! The gold plated case has signs of wear on the lugs and the case shows various different marks. The crown is a later replacement, as is the 24 hour dial inner bezel. The dial is is good condition save for a couple of marks on the sub second dial. The Valjoux 7730 hand winding movement is working well, resetting crisply to zero and with constant seconds at 9. The strap has some age to it, but can be replaced for a new strap at no extra cost. The best Top Time’s are now fetching £1500-2000, so our price reflects the condition of this example.
This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
