This Tissot Seastar Seven is a clean example of a 1960’s Swiss made sports watch, and is fitted with an automatic movement too. Model reference 43509.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1964.
CONDITION
At a time when most watches were round dress watches, the Seastar Seven bucked the trend. It has a square, stainless steel case that was claimed to be waterproof (generally the term water resistant came in in the late 1960’s, replacing the word waterproof, with no technical changes.) The movement is fitted inside a one piece case, referred to as a unibloc case As the case is made in one piece, the only way to get access to the movement is via the armoured crystal, and it is then held in place by a retaining clip. The case is in very good condition, with no major scratches or dings, and the brushed bezel still clearly showing. The movement Tissot chose was their calibre 784, a 21 jewel movement with calendar and it also has execenter fine adjustment on the balance for better timekeeping. It is all clean and running well. The silver hands have a black line of paint inlaid, making them visible against the silver dial for good legibility. The tan strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred – steel cases and silver dials are very versatile for strap choices. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and crown.
