The rare gold plated version of a classic, this Seiko Sportsmatic 5 deluxe is a step above the standard model. Model reference 7606-7871.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in November 1964.
CONDITION
These Seiko Sportmatic models are popular for many reasons, but one key one is size. 37mm isn’t big by modern standards, but it is by 1964 standards. That extra 1.5mm over a Datejust is noticeable. Most are in stainless steel, but this deluxe was the more expensive gold plated version. The plating has a little wear, but nothing significant. The caseback too is worn, but the writing is just about still legible. The dial is great, very clear and legible and in excellent condition. The 23 jewel movement is automatic wind only, hence the crown is flush to the case. The pusher at 3 changes the date with a firm push, but the day wheel needs setting via the hands and the day is in English only. The brown leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
