One of the higher specification ladies watches you will find, this 23 jewel Queen Seiko is unusual to find. Model reference 30001.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1963. The Queen Seiko range were launched in 1962 to accompany the King Seiko line up.
CONDITION
Most ladies watches are, horologically speaking, quite basic. But the Queen Seiko line up was intentionally premium. The case is 14k Gold Filled, rather than the far thinner gold plating on most watches. The hand wound movement has 23 jewel, five of which has Seiko’s Diaflex shock protection, whereas most watches will have a single shock protection and up to 17 jewels. The model was even available with a platinum case, but we have never seen any of those. In fact, any Queen Seiko is quite rare as they didn’t sell in the numbers hoped for, hence they were not in the catalogues for long. The dial and hands on this example are original and quite clean. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
