Certina are an undervalued brand in the UK, but thankfully not in Europe where they are widely collected and appreciated for the quality watch they are.  This solid gold watch is no exception.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the London hall mark on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being assayed in 1961.  The movement production dates are 1960-1975, so this fits the time frame.

CONDITION

This watch has the in house Certina 25-65 27 jewel automatic movement, with can also be hand wound, and this is all running well.  The movement also features an excenter regulator for fine adjustment, a feature only found in better movements.  The gold case is stamped DS&S for David Shackman and Sons, a very well respected British case maker who also made cases for Rolex among others.  (Tax on imported gold watches was very expensive, so many brands sent movements to the UK to be cased here to legally avoid the duty.)  The case is in good order, with the chamfered lugs still clearly visible and the back has never been inscribed.  The dial is original and clean with just a few flecks of dirt and light patina near two.  We have polished the acrylic crystal.  One particularly nice feature on this watch is the blued hands, with the second hand having the tip painted red.  The leather strap is new.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
