The Laurel was yet another sub brand of Seiko, and one they have also reintroduced more recently.  Model reference 14025.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in May 1960.  There is also an inscription on the case back in Japanese that also states 1960.  We have been lucky enough to find the picture from the 1960/61 brochure too.

CONDITION

Finding the original brochure picture is great.  Sure it is interesting, but to find the a period picture from Seiko themselves shows details like the hands and hour markers are correct.  The price of ¥3,900 show the Laurel was more of the entry level range too – the Sportsman was cheaper, but the Crown range started at ¥4,700 and if you wanted a Lord Marvel they were ¥9,800.   This watch has patina on the dial, mainly around the outside, but it isn’t too bad.  The domed signed crown is still in place.  The 17 jewel movement is working away nicely, and is positive to wind – it has a nice feel to it.  The strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.
