A very wearable Roamer Premier in a solid gold case, complete with the original box and the case is not inscribed.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the Birmingham hall mark on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being assayed in 1960.
CONDITION
Roamer watches can be split into two groups by when they were made. Pre 1975 they made the majority of their MST movements in house, and these are the collectible watches. Post 1975, thanks to cost cutting during the Quartz Crisis, the quality slumped and many of the post 1975 watches are also faked and appear on online auction platforms, usually with sellers from India. Be wary of those. Happily this watch is from the finest period of Roamer’s long history.
Inside the Dennison gold case is a MST 401 movement, in the better 17 jewel specification. All is running well, but there is evidence of a replacement crown – the crown is stamped with the T for Technos, not the R for Roamer. Replacement crowns are not unusual on manual wind watches, and maybe the watchmaker had lots of Technos crowns to use! The dial does have some patina but it is not immediately obvious, and the arrow head applied hour markers look great, as does the red writing in Roamer Premier. The case has a few small marks, but nothing terrible, and the leather strap is new. The box is in good order.
