This ladies Zodiac Swiss cocktail watch uses the finest of materials for the case – 18k gold, and the case has a distinctive design.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the London import hallmark on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to being assayed in 1960. It could have been built earlier before being imported
CONDITION
Zodiac have an interesting history, going back to 1882 and you can see more on that history here. One of their more notable watches was the Sea Wolf, which they have recently reintroduced.
This ladies Zodiac is a fairly conventional design, except for the lugs. These are shaped like horns, and this subtle difference makes the watch stand out a little more. These lugs are also drilled, making for easier strap changes. We have cleaned the case and replaced the leather strap with a new one, and if you want a different colour then just ask. Inside is a AS1582 manual winding movement that is running within a minute or two a day. The movement is nicely finished, with chantons holding some of the seventeen jewels, a sure sign that this was not a cheap watch when new. The dial is quite clean save for a bit of dirt near 6, and the applied numeral is slightly distorted but this is not affecting the watch running at all. The crown is signed and original, but a little worn. This is an inexpensive 18k gold watch – many modern quartz fashion watches are this money or more – and would make an interesting and classy addition to any woman’s collection.
