A very nice 1954 Zenith, in a gold filled case, is highly original and still has the original branded strap and buckle fitted.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the movement we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1954.
CONDITION
Gold plated cases are usually 10 microns, with the better cases being 20 microns. This is 80 microns, so this extra thick plating will take far longer to show signs of wear. That is the case here, with only the tips of the lugs showing any wear. This is also why Zenith could plate the case back, whereon lesser watches the watch case back is rarely plated as it would wear through. The signed crown looks a little dull next the shiny case. The leather strap is original and marked Zenith, as is the gold plated buckle, but the strap is missing one keeper for the tail. The manual winding Zenith 126-5-6 movement is setting and winding nicely, and keeping decent time. The embossed hangtag is a nice addition, but we can not guarantee it is for this watch as it has no serial number (unlike Omega hang tags). We suspect the Zenith box may be later, as the plastic used in construction looks more 1980’s than 1950’s, but they did all arrive together so we will sell them together.
This watch will be supplied with a Zenith presentation box, hang tag and our Certificate of Authenticity.
