This gold cushion cased Buren Grand Prix has a nice ICI inscription on the case back.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

From the presentation engraving on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being awarded to J. W. Earle for thirty years service to Imperial Chemical Industries Ltd in 1951.  The Birmingham hallmark for 1951 is also inside the case back.

CONDITION

Buren were a well respected watchmaker, who among the likes of JLC, IWC and Omega made some of the dirty dozen military watches from 1944.  The hand wound, 17 jewel movement is stamped for Buren Grand Prix, and starts immediately and continues to run well.  The case is made by Dennison, and the case back matches the main case number too.  There is a dent on the case back, but it doesn’t interfere with the watch working, as well as signs of wear on the front of the case too.  In the early fifties many people smoked, and this could cause damage to many a watch dial, but this seems to have survived well -you can see the patina of age, but many watches would be far worse.  The case has fixed bars, which are not bent or distorted.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
