HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Sadly the paperwork for this watch is not stamped with the sold date, which would have made life easier. However we have found videos such as this one from Newgate that were uploaded in 2015, so we are using that as an approximate date.
CONDITION
We will not pretend this is a technical tour de force, or that it set the horological world aflame when it was launched. It has a basic Japanese Miyota quartz movement fitted, which is all working well enough and we will fit a new battery before sending it out. The case is 316L stainless steel, and the dial is covered with mineral glass not plastic. But what does make this stand out is the design. Harking back to to trench watches of the first World War, this watch has cathedral style hands and a red twelve – the reason the twelve was painted red was so many people were transitioning from pocket watches to wrist watches that they missed the datum point of the crown at 12 that a pocket watch naturally has, so 12’s were painted red to help people adapt. The watch comes on the original bracelet, but we think it looks better on leather like in the video – the bracelet is not period correct in our opinion. There is a 48mm version of this watch too, which would be very large, so this 35mm is the easier choice (and better for the period, if even a little larger that WW1 watches. These watches were around £175 new.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, papers and our Certificate of Authenticity. It will come on the bracelet unless a leather strap is requested as well.
