Made in Glashutte, this Tutima UTC has the second time zone hand and styling very similar to the iconic 1941 models.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The movement was launched in 2002, and this watch features in The Wristwatch Annual in both 2002 and 2003, but not 2004. Sadly the paperwork isn’t marked with a sold date, but circa 2003 is a likely date.
CONDITION
The watch is still on the original Tutima strap and signed buckle. These are very good, so we doubt this watch has been worn much. The rest of the watch continues this theme, being free from anything but very minor surface scuffs. The domed sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating and is not chipped or scratched. The screw down exhibition case back reveals the decorated ETA 2893-2 21 jewel automatic movement, which was launched in 2002. This movement allows for the third cathedral style hand (unlumed) to tell the time in a second time zone, or can be used as a 24 hour indicator. Being a pilots watch this also has useful functions such as a large, 7mm crown (signed) and hacking to allow precise time measurements. The bezel can also be smoothly turned (no clicks) to use as a time reminder, and this is why the bezel is knurled to allow fingers to grip. This watch is still on the original signed strap and buckle.
Tutima watches are quite hard to get hold of in the UK, so remain a rare sight. If you do find one the nearest new comparable model has a list price of $2,500 US, and this doesn’t have the UTC/GMT time function.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, paperwork and our Certificate of Authenticity.
