HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
While dating TAG Heuer watches is not easy, this one does have some very identifying clues. This colour TAG Heuer logo on the dial first appeared in 1990, and by 1992 the model numbers started to transition from the old model number like stamped on the case back of our watch (972.613), while later watches would be stamped with the later model number (WE1213)
CONDITION
As the 2000 name suggests, this sat between the 1500 and 4000 model line up in the TAG Heuer catalogue. All of their watch models had the same main features – unidirectional bezel, safety clasp, screw down crown, 200m water resistance and luminous markings. With hindsight this may have been a mistake, as there was not too much to encourage the buyer to spend more on the 4000 or 6000 model when the 1000 or 1500 offering much of the same. The 2000 range offered an amazing amount of choice of sizes, colour, movements and bezels. This one has the smooth bezel, and the insert is in very good condition. The movement is an ETA 955.412, 7 jewel quartz movement with quick set date. The dark grey/black dial has nice gilt details and the lume is all even. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath but is quite short – the wrist photo is taken with the divers flip lock extension open, otherwise it would not fit. Being a mid size watch it does suit a smaller wrist anyway, so this may not be an issue to you. The video demonstrates how a mid sized divers watch compares with other watches.
