HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The logo on the case back was launched in 1985, and by 1990 Oris had switched from making quartz watches to only making mechanical watches – quite a bold move then and one that has paid off since. So we think this watch was made in the late eighties.
CONDITION
The Acapulco range is not one we could find out a lot of information on. Why it is called after the Mexican beach resort of Acapulco remains a mystery to us! However you get a solid stainless steel case, ETA movement and some interesting design details for not a lot of money, so let’s overlook the naming origins! The dial has a graph paper look, with red crosshairs and that is complemented with a red seconds hand. Inside the stainless steel case is an ETA 450.111, notable for the exposed gear wheels on the back (some people think quartz movements have no mechanical elements, and this shows they do.) The unsigned bracelet is full length and can be adjusted without the need for special tools. It has been cleaned in out ultrasonic bath, but could be swapped for a leather strap if preferred. We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. With the cheapest new Oris being over £1,000, this provides a lot of brand for your buck.
