This Boctok (a Russian variation on Vostock) Cadet model has their usual, wibbly wobbly crown but at 2 o’clock rather than 3.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Exact production dates are not available for this model, but several specialist sites and books on Soviet watches say that this model was mid Eighties.
CONDITION
The case design is unusual. The same size case is described in some books as a Ladies watch, but at 34 mm it can be worn by men too. We would suggest that the watch wears smaller that 34 mm though, and the bezel eats into the dial size. The blue dial does have a few marks, and the minute hand has lost most of its lume. The bi directional bezel turns smoothly, and the red enamel dots have been restored. The crown screws down correctly, and if you have not seen the wibbly wobbly crown on Boctok watches before it is worth looking at the video. The design is supposed to prevent the watch movement being damaged if it was dropped and landed crown down, but it just takes a little adjustment to get used to. We have paired a blue suedette type strap to match the dial, but any 18mm strap would change the appearance of this watch quite dramatically. We have taken some photos of the same watch on a camouflage NATO strap and a more conventional black leather strap to demonstrate just how different it can look. The Calibre 2409A movement, made in the Chistopol factory is housed in the 461 case and is working well.
