HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
While we do not have accurate dating information for Rado watches, we do for Tissot. And Tissot used the same movement that can be found in this Rado between 1982 and 1985. Therefore we are happy to assume this watch was made at a similar time.
CONDITION
Finding a watch from this period in this condition is not easy. When a watch that is 40+ years old is still on the same strap, it clearly hasn’t been worn much, and the condition of everything else backs this up. The glass has a light scratch on the centre, only visible at some angles, but that is the worse of it. The 10 micron gold plated case is excellent, and that coin edged case looks great. The size is small by modern watch standards, but this is what people wanted in the early 1980’s. The aforementioned movement is badged for Rado, but is actually a seven jewel Swiss ETA quartz movement used by lots of different watch companies (but not all would sign it like Rado did). We will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The dial is excellent, with a quartz crystal symbol above six. The leather strap is used and labeled for Rado, but we could fit a new strap if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown, buckle and strap.
