When new, this was a Audemars Piguet quartz and never a Royal Oak, but most people will recognise it as part of the Royal Oak history (Including AP themselves!) Model reference 6005SA.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
When we compare the B serial number on this watch to the C serial number 6005SA in the Audemars Piguet private museum, which they have down as being sold in March 1986, we know our watch must be earlier. The model was introduced in 1978, and the 1986 watch must have been one of the last. We have opted for circa 1980 as a probable production date for this watch, especially as we have a black and white advert from 1980 that matches the watch perfectly.
CONDITION
We have had several 6005SA models, as well as the regular Royal Oak hexagonal watches, and we are fans of them. All 6005SA variations used a quartz movement, and this watch has the AP calibre 2511. The two hander movement has an independent hour hand, and on the rare occasions you might need to adjust the minutes this is done by pressing the button set into the crown. All is working well, and we will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. At just 7mm thick, this Jumbo size case (for the time) wears really well. The case back and bezel are all 18k gold, as are the centre links in the bracelet, and Audemars Piguet do not skimp on gold – the case back alone weighs 14g, which is over £700 of gold alone in that one part that could easily be made from steel. The bracelet is quite long and our sister website, SpareLinks.com, may have extra links if required. The bracelet has a replacement clasp as the original has broken, but we will include the original in case you wish to get it restored – it is photographed and shown in the video. The Petite Tapisserie patterned dial is very good and gold hands are straight and true. The case and bracelet look unpolished – a poorly polished Royal Oak is quite easy to spot, as the angled lines soften. The watch is signed on the dial, case and movement.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon. By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
