This manual wind Universal Geneve Tank watch is a nice clean example and a classic dress watch. Model reference 542114.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The watch has the fat U logo that was first used in 1971, but more telling is the movement was first available in 1975. This may be newer, but can not be older than 1975.
CONDITION
Universal Geneve made several different variations of reference 842114, all with the same case, crown and movement but with different dial variation and some were in stainless steel too – the stainless cased references start with 842. Inside is the Universal Geneve calibre 1-42 a straightforward manual wind power unit that needs to be would via the signed crown daily. The dial on this example has stick indices also in gold against a gold dial, and also has the rare and sought after signed buckle. The 20 micron gold plated case shows a little wear, but presents well. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, buckle and crown.
