This Sorna Alarm watch is in fantastic condition, with a manual wind movement and unusual bracelet finish.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the production dates of the movement, plus styling clues, with think this watch was made circa 1975. The logo used on this dial was first registered in June 1973, so this watch has to be later than that.
CONDITION
Some watches we buy because they are ideal to sell for a birth year watch (i.ee they have the original paperwork, or an inscription). When we bought this Sorna alarm watch we knew it would not be possible to accurately date it, but the condition means this doesn’t matter. It would be easy to describe this as NOS, but there are few light swirlies on the bracelet clasp that show it has been worn a bit, if not much. That is a shame. The watch has a Ronda 1243-21 movement, with the higher specification 17 jewel set up. Unusually the alarm mechanism is on the dial side, so isn’t visible. You wind the watch and set the time on the top crown, and wind and set the alarm on the bottom crown. All is working well. The bracelet is unusual too – it has goldplating between the links only. It may be that the whole bracelet was gold plated, and then polished off to match the case. The dial is superb, both in design and execution. The orange alarm hand and the green lume is a wonderful contrast.
