This Men’s Smiths watch has a Swiss day date manual wind movement, but it is the case and handset that really catches the eye.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

Smiths didn’t start using Swiss movements until the early 1970’s.  We have the sales catalogues up to 1971, so we know the watch must be after this date.  UPDATE – we have just found this exact model for sale in a 1974/5 catalogue, so we know it must have been around in 1974.

CONDITION

This watch has a very thick dial with the machining and bevels still looking sharp.  It is quite a large size case for a vintage watch, so suits today’s tastes.  The case has a screw down stainless steel case back, and just a few light marks and scratches to show for all the years.  The acrylic crystal has been polished to remove scratches.  The Apollo leather strap may be the original one – the watch does have spring bars so this can be changed if required in the future easily.  The EB8800 jeweled movement isn’t high end watchmaking, but it is keeping good time.

This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
