HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The Eterna Sonic range was launched in 1970, and ran until 1975. Unlike mechanical Eterna watches these do not have serial numbers on the movement, so we have simply picked the mid point year for this model.
CONDITION
Inside this case is an ESA 9164, and that is the same movement you find in all the higher quality electronic watches. ESA licensed the technology from Bulova in 1968, which is acknowledged inside the case back, and then made versions for different manufacturers. Omega f300, IWC Electronic, Tissot Tissonic and Longines Ultronic among others that all used the same movement, just badged slightly differently for each brand. The movement is all working nicely and we will install a brand new battery before sending the watch out to the new owner. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. The dial and hands are both very good. The crystal is the original signed one, and does have chips to the edge and minor scratches. The case is 20 micron 14k gold plated and is overall very good for the age. The crown has a logo we don’t recognise and has lost the gold plating, but the buckle is an Eterna item with the five ball bearing logo.
