This ultra original Mondia SkyStar is about as good as you would ever hope to find.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Zenith-Movado was formed from both companies in 1969, and later that year they added Mondia to make the new group bigger. Soon after you will find the inside of the case backs engraved with the newly formed company names, but as this just has Mondia it was likely built about the same time as the takeover but before the new case back design became standardised. The movement also dates from the late sixties/early seventies, tying everything together.
CONDITION
Everyone wants originality on vintage watches, and this watch is the equivalent of finding a fifty year old car still on the same tyres it left the factory on! The Crown is signed, the buckle is signed, and rarest of all the strap is also signed and likely the original. Occasionally you find a NOS watch, but this really is the next best thing to that. The case is all stainless steel, and was designated waterproof at the time. The movement is a 25 jewel automatic AS1916 calibre, which has day and date and the date can be quickset by pushing the crown inwards. The silver dial can’t be faulted, and indeed the only spot of damage is a chip from the edge of the crystal at 6. That original leather strap is worn, so we will provide a new leather strap as well – just specify at checkout if you want us to fit it for you, or if you want it on the original strap to start with.
